A bumper cover should be around $1,000 USD.

Turtle Wax scratch remover: $5USD

Small bit of Bondo: $0.50USD

Touch-up paint: $10USD

Spending an afternoon fixing something yourself: priceless.

Well, if it’s an insurance job... new bumper, fit and paint: €750.

Otherwise: bit of filler and paint: €150

I’d guess around $2,000

R&R bumper, paint time and material for the new bumper. Figuring a cost anywhere from $300 (aftermarket) to $800 (OEM) for the part I’m going to guess $1500-1800.

They could repair crack in the bumper, but the labor in money would probably end up costing more than replacement ...then again I’m basing my numbers on U.S. figures and costs.

I fully agree, that is what I would have done if I had caused it myself. B ut in this case  the insurance of the car that hit me is paying, so why not have it fixed properly?

Kinja'd!!! BvdV - The Dutch Engineer > Monkey B
01/14/2019 at 15:34

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s the closest  guess! It’s €1495 which is slightly over $1700. That includes repairing the rear quarter panel, as that got some slight damage too.

Kinja'd!!! BvdV - The Dutch Engineer > Cé hé sin
01/14/2019 at 15:36

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s an insurance job, but it’s a bit more! €1495 to be precise. A lot of the additional cost is probably because the rear quarter panel needs some work around the edges as it got slightly bent and scratched, which made some of the paint crack a bit .

01/14/2019 at 15:37

Kinja'd!!!1

If I had fixed it myself, that was probably what I’d be spending. But mr. Insurance wants to spend €1495 on mending my car!

Kinja'd!!! BvdV - The Dutch Engineer > Svend
01/14/2019 at 15:38

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s a bit more: €1495! Mainly because it also very slightly hit the rear quarter panel. Luckily the (other guy’s)  insurance is paying!

Luckily it is not. I would hate to loose this car in such a way, as I’ve had so many great moments and drives in it

Bloody hell. Can they not pull it or beat it out?

There isn’t much behind the rear light clus ters, I took one out to replace a bulb and there was nothing to stop the rear wheels kicking dirt up under the rear lights.

bwoah@!

tho... im not all that shocked... had a fireworks mishap a few years back... wondertol landed on the neighbours windshield... cracked the windshield and melted a hole in the plastic wotsit the wipers are mounted on

came to almost 1 thousand euros...

im still amazed my insurance covered that one

Kinja'd!!! BvdV - The Dutch Engineer > Svend
01/14/2019 at 15:56

Kinja'd!!!1

I think the main problem is that it’s at the panel edge, where the metal is folded double around th e edge , so harder to pull/beat out.

01/14/2019 at 15:59

Yeah, repairs can get out of hand in terms of cost pretty quickly...

I’m positively surpised that the Insurance is willing to even spend more than a third of the value of my car to fix it!
